Spent time on Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt Redwood State Park and then drove to Prairie Creek State Park to hike Fern Canyon. Beautiful lush, wet canyon literally steps away from the Pacific Ocean and Gold Bluffs beach.
Hit the road and drove up HWY 199 through Jedidiah Smith State Park (all park of the Redwood National and State Park system) along the Smith River to Grants Pass.
Next day spent in Crater Lake National Park and the Hummingbird Estates; Crater Lake history and old-timey lodge was fabulous. I picture tourists there in the 20’s in their hats and long skirts sipping coffee on the balcony. Quite a feat to build it on the “rim of the crater” and even better that many stepped up to save it when they were considering tearing down. Loved that lodge!
The drives through the Six Rivers National Forest are spectacular although a bit treacherous at times….narrow, guardrails now and then and semis/logging trucks hurling toward you. There were a few Yikes along the way!
