From Glacier, we hit Polson MT and stayed a few days at the KOA there….had some fun on Flathead Lake which I had heard about but never visited. We rented a deck boat and cruised the lake for a bit, ventured out to Wild Horse Island and then back to do some fishing. I caught a small bass, but Tim says it doesn’t technically count because it got away before I got it in the boat. First cast though, so there’s that….The little Main Street in Polson was cute, the cherries were FABULOUS and our campsite was lovely. Not too big, nice pool and a great sitting area with lake views.
After Polson, we drove to Butte to join Les and Stef Cook and a few other friends for the annual Montana Folk Festival. I heard about this years ago and it’s been on our list to get to, so this was a destination from the beginning of our trip. Les and Stef were the perfect hosts as usual, and we had a blast listening to all types of folk music over three days. Two favorite acts were La Vent du Nord ( a band from Quebec) and Los Texmaniacs from San Antonio. Look them up….they were amazing. I’ve never seen anyone play the accordion like this guy and the hurdy
Norma Carr joined us on her road trip through Montana, and we had some fun hanging in the campground getting caught up. Butte is a mining town with a rich history and amazing ghost and neon signs. They also happen to have the best market Tim has ever encountered, The Front Street Market, and he was in heaven. Think Caputos on steroids. It was a lovely oasis in town….this was only the second campground that left something to be desired, but we had other places to explore so it was fine. After the festival, we hit Bozeman for two days to relax at Bozeman Hot Springs and Campground and explore Main Street. Darling town….not long enough!
