Just finished three great days wandering the streets of Boston…we left ZsaZsa in Middleboro and took the train into the city. We had a great hotel on the North End, close to Little Italy, which made the food… oh so convenient! The first night we roamed the street and scored an early table at The Daily Catch…a notable restaurant seating 20 people with the kitchen in full view. The fried calamari was wonderful and we had a little two-top table literally sitting on the sidewalk side, with an open window to the street. A passerby could have easily pocketed a treat if they’d wanted, which made the experience even better! The NorthEnd felt very European to us, and we loved just walking and seeing all the stores/restaurants. We also took advantage of Mike’s Pastries and stood in line, with scores of others, for their famous cannelloni…chocolate and mousse.. and they did not disappoint!
Our hotel was right across the street from the Boston Garden where, on the second night there, they played their first game of the season and dropped the championship banner, gave our rings, etc… Tim had to remind me that they won the NBA championship last year (no clue) so it was fun to see all the fans decked out in their gear and the place was rocking!
Our first day we took a trolley around the town to get a lay of the land, and while we were cruising we saw our niece, Annie, standing on a corner! A town of over 1M people and we see her….totally random and fun. We met up with her and her husband Brendan that night for another meal in the North End at Isabellas…..great food, tiny restaurant, fabulous company~
The next day we walked the Freedom Trail, the Emerald Necklace, through the Public Gardens, down Newberry Street and ended in South Boston. Mid day we went to the Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum which was so fascinating…if you don’t know the story check it out. She had a beautiful vision, great energy, endless money and created a beautiful art gallery for the public. It also has the distinction of being the target of the largest art heist in history which has never been solved. Watch This Is A Robbery if you are interested. We ended our evening at Kava Neo Taverna (a rec from Annie and Brendan) with seriously good Greek tapas…
Our days in Boston were literally sunny and warm and we loved exploring the history, the food, the art and the people. Tim had never been there and it won him over!
