“you have set an example which seems to me unfortunate….You had an opportunity to lead in an enlightened way and it seems to me that your organization has failed. ” Eleanor Roosevelt to the President of the Daughters of the Revolution. You Go Girl…..
We headed from Newport, through Connecticut and on to Hyde Park to see the FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt Library, homes and resting place. (BTW…I kinda loved that she had her own house and basically lived her own life while First Lady and after even while respecting and supporting FDR and their common goals.) I have read several books about Eleanor and think she was someone I would have liked to have a glass of wine with back in the day. She and FDR presided over some serious times in our nation’s history and by all accounts did it rather purposefully, optimistically and with great service to the America we could become. The Presidential Library was amazing and we were fascinated by the archives, the letters you could read in entirety, the chronology of what they oversaw and the beautiful grounds. I recommend it highly if you haven’t been there. Zoom in on some of those if you can….amazing letters from amazing historic figures.
