We had a great night out with Mark Blackburn, a college friend from oh so many years ago, who took us to the harbor area for a great dinner, the boat parade and Kermits Key Lime Pie….I think it’s the winner! After several tastings, we liked Kermits the best!
We had a few more days to just kick back, we went into town a few times to listen to live music which was wonderful, tour Fort Taylor and check out Salute on the beach, a groovy beachfront restaurant! Our last few days were lovely.
Then we headed to Homestead for 2 nights, stayed at a winery and ventured through Everglades National Park. We hit an airboat tour (that was sadly kind of cheesy) and then walked through Shark Valley and Royal Palm areas of the park where we saw a total of 15 alligators just along the walk. Seriously close…like maybe 8 feet. Just lounging in the sun while folks walked right by them….very surreal and creepy. The birding in Royal Palm was fabulous and again on the drive along Alligator Alley as we drove from Homestead to Ft. Myers. We are here for a few days over Christmas and then heading up the coast. A few highlights:

However you celebrate the season…may it be magical!
