We came for the Silos, but were almost more impressed by the Red Herring bar and the Fabled Bookshop and Cafe.
The Silos marketplace was really quite fun. We happened upon it right before President’s Day weekend so were there on the TH before which gave us good access to the 20% off sales but allowed us to avoid the mobs that were going to descend upon it over the weekend. It’s a pretty remarkable space, very well thought out and inviting, complete with a renovated church with amazing architecture for those who don’t care about shopping and a wiffle bar field with equipment to borrow for restless kids and partners while others shop. The Lemon Lavender and Red Velvet cupcakes and the Silo Cookie did not disappoint and the Tent Sale helped me secure a few Christmas decor items WAYYYYYY marked down for when we are back in SLC. All in all, a good hour or so. Then we visited the Red Herring bar in the Herringbone Hotel which was gorgeous and served wonderful cocktails in a very cool atmosphere…and then went across town to the Magnolia Table where the charm of the Silos was not nearly as apparent. The food was okay, the service not so much and it didn’t feel like it was quite up to the name as it should have been. But maybe it was just a bad day….

The next day we took a long walk along the river, through the Baylor campus and the downtown area and happened upon the Fabled Bookshop and Cafe. Tim had seen it in his research but we had forgotten about it but thank goodness we turned on the right street and remembered it was something we wanted to check out. BEST BOOKSHOP EVER. The decor, the staff, the inventory, the whimsy, the book write ups!, the wine bar, the coffee bar, the beer bar, the wardrobe door leading into the children’s reading area, the book dragon weaving along the tops of bookshelves. EXQUISITE. FUN. WITTY. DARLING. We could have stayed there for HOURS. Google it. You’ll become a fan and I resolve to order my books from them because they deserve the support!
